Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital continues work to address damage from a rooftop fire that occurred at Manistee Medical Offices, 1293 E. Parkdale Ave., on August 29. The hospital expects cleaning and repairs to continue until November.

“Remediation and reconstruction is taking longer than we initially thought it would, but we are committed to ensuring the building is back to pre-incident condition before we move staff and patients back in,” said James Barker, Manistee Hospital CEO. “Our staff and a team of experts have been working diligently since day one, but it’s a huge undertaking.”

The Health Connection Fitness Center will remain closed until the completion of the Manistee Community Health Center, also expected in November. “While we’re disappointed we won’t be able to open as quickly as we thought, we’re excited to show our members our beautiful new space and equipment,” said Dursa Marshall, Health Connection Manager. “We have some fun things planned for our reopening.” All active Health Connection memberships will be extended accordingly.

Barker thanks community members for their patience. “Our site was already somewhat chaotic because of our planned construction and roadway improvements,” said Barker. “I know the additional challenge of having to go to a new place for an appointment, likely following a winding detour through our campus, isn’t easy or convenient. But our patients have been very understanding, and we know they’ll appreciate the improvements when the project is complete.”

Barker also expressed his appreciation for his staff. “I am grateful for the teamwork and dedication demonstrated by employees throughout the organization during this challenging time,” said Barker. “Everyone really pulled together to minimize the disruption to our patients.”

Patients with questions about their visits are asked to contact their health care provider’s office.
