09.29.2017
Empire Family Care recently welcomed two new family practice providers, Cyrus Ghaemi, D.O., and Katie Krezoski-Evans, D.O., who join Nichole Fliss, M.D.

The new providers will not only help expand operating hours during the week, but also add Saturday appointments for patients in the region effective Oct. 1.Cyrus Ghaemi, DO

“Over the past several years, we have worked hard to build up a great medical home in Empire – with laboratory and physical therapy services, and last year the addition of pharmacy,” Dr. Fliss said. “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Ghaemi and Dr. Krezoski-Evans to join us. Their addition goes a long way in achieving a sustainable and well-rounded medical practice here in Empire.”

Both Drs. Ghaemi and Krezoski-Evans served their residency at Munson Healthcare’s Family Practice Residency program based in Traverse City and are excited about practicing in rural northern Michigan.

Dr. Ghaemi graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and received his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is married and his wife, Christina Barkel, works on a Leelanau County organic farm.

“My wife and I both grew up in Michigan and we’ve always wanted to be somewhere more connected to nature,” he said. “We like to garden and cook and enjoy the outdoors. We’ve raised honeybees and plan on doing that again. We also enjoy hiking, biking, skiing and swimming.”

Dr. Krezoski-Evans graduated from Kalamazoo College, received her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and is board certified in family medicine. She is married to Luke Evans, whose family is rooted in the Empire area.

“I enjoy baking, cooking, hiking, snowshoeing, traveling and reading. I try to make everything from scratch and love canning, foraging, and learning how to do-it-yourself,” she said. “I am excited to be based in Leelanau County and to get to know the community.”Katie Krezoski-Evans, DO

Drs. Ghaemi and Krezoski-Evans also do osteopathic manipulation and have an interest in integrative medicine. They are both members of the American Osteopathic Association.
