Kalkaska Memorial Named Top 100 Critical Access Hospital

03.08.2019

Kalkaska Memorial Health Center recently was honored by The Chartis Center for Rural Health as a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital in the United States.

The award is based upon the results of the Hospital Strength INDEX® developed by iVantage Health Analytics. It is regarded as one of the health care industry’s most significant designations of performance excellence.

“This award is a testament to the fact that we have 450 staff members that get up every morning with the goal of improving the health and quality of life of the residents we serve,” said Kevin Rogols, hospital administrator and CEO. “As a municipal hospital we will continue to work hard every day to make our communities proud.”

Critical access hospitals across the nation were scored across 50 rural-relevant indicators in eight areas that included inpatient market share, outpatient market share, cost, charges, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, and financial stability to achieve an overall hospital score. Data for each of the 50 indicators was collected from publicly available sources.

“In an era of increased complexity and uncertainty, Top 100 hospitals have established themselves as a bellwether for rural provider performance,” said Michael Topchik, national leader of The Chartis Center for Rural Health. “Top 100 status is a real indicator of how proactive these hospitals are when it comes to pushing for performance improvement in areas such as quality, outcomes, patient safety, market share, and finance.”

The recognition marks the first time Kalkaska Memorial Health Center has been in the Top 100. The hospital’s strongest scores were in quality, value, and overall financial stability.
