Manistee Hospital Laboratory Awarded CAP Accreditation

05.13.2019

The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded re-accreditation to Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital’s Laboratory based on results of a recent on-site inspection.

The facility's director, Laura Gottfried, MD, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided. Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital Laboratory is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

“Lab tests are a vital component of medical care, helping physicians and advanced practice professionals make diagnoses and develop treatments,” said Tom LaVelle, Manistee Hospital’s Laboratory Manager. “CAP accreditation demonstrates that Manistee Hospital’s laboratory provides the highest standard of care.”

The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government's own inspection program.

During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory's records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.

“Our lab staff work diligently every day to ensure the accuracy and precision of our testing,” said James Barker, CEO of Manistee Hospital. “This accreditation recognizes their commitment to our patients.”
