Munson Kid’s Creek Project Digs In, After Long Winter
Installation of bridge span will close portion of Sixth Street starting April 29

Now that spring has arrived, dirt has begun to move again on Munson Medical Center’s Kid’s Creek Restoration Project.

Vice President of Facilities Steve Tongue said a big part of preparing the creek bed will be installing bridge spans across Sixth Street and Beaumont Place.

Starting Monday, April 29, preparation to install the bridge span across Sixth Street will bring about the need to close off a 200-foot stretch of Sixth Street potentially into June. This will impact normal traffic patterns around the hospital closing access to the main patient parking lot from Sixth Street. Traffic will be rerouted to the Elmwood Avenue entrance across from Seventh Street.

“We have worked with the city to develop a plan to minimize disruption to our patients, neighbors, and staff,” Tongue said. “Our intention is to make this as smooth as possible.”

Delivery of the bridge span is expected in the middle of May. Plans to reroute traffic flow involve using the entrance across from Seventh Street and routing patient traffic through Parking Lot A to the main entrance area.

Access to Parking Lot A from Sixth Street will be blocked for approximately four to six weeks. Information on street closures and a map that shows how traffic will be rerouted is available on the hospital’s website.

“We appreciate that there will be some inconvenience associated with this project for patients, visitors, and physician offices that are on campus and adjacent to the hospital,” Tongue said. “However, once the Kid’s Creek project is completed it will offer a beautiful respite spot for years to come.”
