Thomas Judd Care Center Hosts World AIDS Day Ceremony
Event will be Dec. 1 at Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City
Munson Medical Center’s Thomas Judd Care Center will host a community World AIDS Day ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 1, at Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass St., in Traverse City.
Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. and the ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. The observance will include guest speakers, special performances and readings, a free will offering for the Angel Fund, and a candlelight vigil.
In honor of World AIDS Day, the film “Thomas Judd, One Man’s Story,” about the life and journey of Thomas Judd, will be shown during the event. Judd was a pioneer in HIV education across the northern Michigan region. The film chronicles the finals days of his walk with HIV and includes footage of family members, some of whom will be at the event.
“Although, HIV/AIDS is not in the headlines today, the epidemic has not gone away. We still have much to do in the fight against this disease,” said Brian Simerson, of the Thomas Judd Care Center. “We hope many will join our clients and their families in a journey of wellness through educating themselves, their family, and friends about HIV/AIDS and how it impacts northern Michigan communities.”
