Fitness Class Mixes Martial Arts, Dance, Healing
Health Education Institute offers 10-week NIA class

Mix a little martial arts, dance, and healing arts, and the result is NIA – or neuromuscular integrative action.

Founded in San Francisco more than 20 years ago, the aerobic exercise incorporates various movements and music into a fun and dynamic cardiovascular workout. NIA promotes healthy joints and balance, and increases strength, flexibility, and circulation.

The Health Education Institute, a partnership between Northwestern Michigan College and Munson Medical Center, offers a 10-week NIA class Tuesdays, April 3 - June 12. Classes are 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in Munson Community Health Center’s Classroom D. Cost is $99.

The classes are a moderately paced mind and body workout with enough intensity to burn calories and exercise the heart. Participants should wear comfortable clothing for movement.  Sessions are taught by Anna Wassa, certified NIA instructor.

Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, call NMC at (231) 995-1700.

Munson Community Health Center is located at 550 Munson Ave. in Traverse City.
