Second Annual HeartChase Returns to Traverse City
Munson Medical Center helps sponsor the American Heart Association event

Munson Medical Center will once again be a sponsor of the American Heart Association’s HeartChase™, a family-oriented race scheduled for the Open Space on Aug. 11.

HeartChase involves a community-wide competition of teams of two to five persons who use mobile smartphone maps to find their way to 10 checkpoints throughout the city. Teams have to uncover clues, solve puzzles, and complete fun challenges at checkpoints. The checkpoint activities are designed to teach participants about heart health, such as healthy eating, exercise, or other life-saving learning experiences.

AHA’s Amanda Peterson said plans call for celebrity teams, student teams, family teams, athlete teams, and others. The event will be chaired by 7&4 news anchor Melissa Smith. Participants pay a $35 fee, which includes a T-shirt. However, all participants have the opportunity to fundraise for their entry fee through registering online and asking family and friends to support them via the website.

Registration and check-in begins at 8 a.m. at the Open Space. The competition runs from 9 am to noon. Awards will be presented at 12:30 p.m. To register a team go to: heartchase.org.
