Munson Health
Barb Smith

Barb Smith and her husband Dudley have greatly improved health and education services in the Traverse City community through generous gifts to Northwestern Michigan College and Munson Healthcare, specifically a lead gift for the Smith Family Breast Health Center.

But, Barb says, she also welcomes the opportunity to serve in a more hands-on capacity. "I was happy to accept the invitation to join the remarkable people who volunteer their time and support on the Munson Healthcare Regional Foundation Board," she said. "It’s a time when we’ll be challenged to keep up with the health needs of the communities served by the Foundation, particularly our aging population. Many areas of the hospital are going to be overwhelmed unless we stay on track. It’s such a great facility with wonderful doctors and dedicated, caring staff. Who wouldn’t want to be involved?"

Barb is motivated by a deep sense of gratitude for all the blessings that come from living in northern Michigan, made fresh each time a visitor marvels at the region’s beauty, engaging lifestyle, and outstanding services, including a top-rated hospital.

Barb is the retired CFO of Olmsted Products, a company Dudley purchased in 1988. The Smiths have a passion for building the community, and believe that Munson is integral to the region’s strength. They also actively participate in ways to support the college, and Barb serves on the NMC Foundation board.

She is a past board member for Grand Traverse Areas United Way and the National Cherry Festival, as well as an avid supporter and member of Leelanau Conservancy, Three Generations of Circle of Women Givers, and By the Bay Garden Club. Barb enjoys many activities, but especially loves spending time with her children and grandchildren who live in the area. She and Dudley split their time between Sutton's Bay and Lecanto, Florida.

Barb looks forward to helping increase community support for Munson Healthcare and working with the Foundation’s all-star board. "I am excited and enthusiastic about joining them - I know they’ll be fantastic to work with."
