Accreditation and Quality Improvement

At Our Best for You.

Munson Medical Center and the surgeons from Grand Traverse Surgery, PC, are fully accredited through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program, administered jointly by the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Munson Medical Center has had a nationally recognized program since 2008 and we are rigorously evaluated to ensure our hospital and surgeons continue to meet the quality standards established by these organizations.

To maintain our national accreditation, we must demonstrate and document through short- and long-term outcomes that we have a comprehensive program and meet the established program requirements for providing safe bariatric surgical care.

Munson Medical Center must perform at least 125 bariatric surgeries per year, while our surgeons must have accomplished at least 125 bariatric surgeries during their career and 50 bariatric surgeries per year. There were 183 bariatric procedures performed at Munson Medical Center by Grand Traverse Surgery surgeons in 2012. Since the program began in 2003, we have performed more than 2,300 procedures.

Bariatric procedures are not for everyone. Our team of bariatric surgeons performs bariatric procedures only when surgery is the best choice for the patient’s health.
