Helping Women Cope With Painful Bladder Syndrome
Family nurse provider discusses condition and possible support group
Painful bladder syndrome, also called interstitial cystitis, is a condition that causes discomfort or pain in the bladder and surrounding pelvic region.
Symptoms vary from case to case and even in the same individual. Sometimes the condition creates mild discomfort, pressure, tenderness, or intense pain in the bladder and pelvic area. Others may have an urgent, or frequent need to urinate, or a combination of symptoms. This condition is far more common in women than in men. Of the estimated 1.3 million Americans with this condition, more than 1.2 million are women.
Munson Family Nurse Practitioner Terri Glenn, F.N.P., and Kathryn Francisco, L.P.N. II, will present an overview of current information about interstitial cystitis from 6 - 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Munson Community Health Library located at Munson Community Health Center. They also will discuss the interest level for beginning a support group. A person currently under treatment for the condition will provide input from the patient perspective.
The program is free and open to the public, however registration is requested. For more information and to register, call (231) 935-9265.
