Charlie Bumb of Cedar and Lorraine Beers of Traverse City have joined the Munson Healthcare Regional Foundation Board as trustees. Both are breast cancer survivors who were actively involved in efforts to fund a new Breast Health Center in Traverse City.

Bumb was VP of National Accounts for Cummins Engine Co., Inc., a global corporation that designs, manufactures, distributes, and services engines and related technologies, before retiring in 2001.

"In my business career, the demands on my time were such that I didn’t get to do much to give back to the community," he said. "Being part of the Foundation Board allows me to do that."

Bumb became an active supporter of Munson Healthcare after touring Munson’s new "world-class" Emergency Department. "I was really impressed," he said. When he learned about plans for a new Breast Health Center, he wanted to help, particularly because he had survived breast cancer at the age of 41.

"I believe in what the Foundation is doing - not only raising funds but helping keep Munson in a leadership position in health care," he said. "I also like that the Foundation emphasizes stewardship with its donors to develop long-term relationships. I’m looking forward to working on whatever exciting projects come along in the future to keep Munson in a leadership position."
