Munson Mental Health Services combines inpatient
and intensive outpatient services designed to restore an individual
to the highest functioning level. Regular office hours are from
7 am to 11 pm, Monday through Friday. At other times a staff clinician
is on call to handle emergencies.
Admission Services
The Centralized
Access Center (CAC) coordinates admissions to Munsons
Mental Health Services. Trained professionals, who assist in determining
the need and level of care, staff the CAC 24 hours a day, seven
days a week. Evaluation of an individual is done through an intake
interview by phone or in person at Munson. The results of the
interview and recommendations are discussed with the individual.
A clinician will then make referrals and arrange the appropriate
treatment.
Emergency Services
For anyone in need of immediate, acute, psychiatric
care, 24-hour emergency care is available through Munsons
Emergency Room where a centralized access professional will assist
in arranging psychiatric consultation and admission if necessary.
Inpatient (Acute Care Services)
The Inpatient Mental Health Program provides
comprehensive psychiatric and mental health treatment for anyone
requiring 24-hour care due to disabling symptoms of mental illness
and/or emotional crisis. The Mental Health Unit offers a confidential,
supportive, individualized approach to treatment.
The treatment team consists of a board certified
psychiatrist, psychiatric-mental health nurses, social worker,
occupational therapist, and a dual diagnosis counselor. Each team
member assesses the patient, participates in treatment planning,
provides direct care, and evaluates progress toward treatment
goals. Clients and families are encouraged to get involved in
planning treatment.
To help clients continue their progress after
hospitalization, appropriate referrals are made to community providers,
and/ or agencies. Some of those could include community physicians,
therapists, support groups, specialized treatment centers, or
community mental health.
The Inpatient Mental Health Program develops
and strengthens the patients ability to meet the emotional,
physical, and social demands of daily living. There are many therapeutic
activities, including individual and group psychotherapy, social
skills training, coping skills, assertiveness training, self-esteem
training, relaxation techniques, art therapy, and goal setting
to provide structure to each day. The activities are designed
to support each individual at their current level of functioning.
Patient participation is expected. The treatment team and therapeutic
environment combine to promote education, personal responsibility,
and healthy coping skills.
