telephones, and a shower in every room. Patients can expect all
of the following:
Early Mobility and Activity
Members of the team involving nursing, physical
therapy and occupational therapy will help you progress quickly
to early mobilization and activity. It is the key to a quick recovery
and also leads to a successful rehabilitation.
Nursing
Our quality and compassionate nursing staff
on the orthopedic unit will meet your individual needs by assessing
and designing specific interventions, created and facilitated
by our orthopedic team. Every need is addressed through a high
standard of care for the orthopedic patient. The nurses work with
the physicians and the other members to ensure that you have an
exceptional health care experience.
Patient Education
Instructions related to your procedure, recovery
process, plan of care, equipment, and discharge needs will be
given to you and your family members throughout your inpatient
experience by the team. This education is linked also to the entire
process from the pre-operative office visit, to the recovery period
at home.
Pain management
The methods of pain control will be determined
by your surgeon, with constant observation by the nurses and members
of the team, to determine if any adjustments or changes are needed.
Prevention of Complications
The multidisciplinary team determines methods
used to prevent or decrease any complications related to your
surgical procedure. You will also be asked to report specific
signs or symptoms to the team members.
Discharge Planning
The process of discharge planning is initiated
upon arrival to the unit and collaborative goals are determined.
Once these goals have been met, the social worker and home care
utilization coordinator make arrangements for your discharge and
follow-up care. You can be sure that all your questions will be
answered and that you will also be very satisfied with your inpatient
orthopedic experience and recovery process at home.
