No swimming skills are required to participate in an aqua therapy program. Our goal is to enhance your functional abilities within your daily life.
Aquatic Therapy sessions are staffed by Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists. Each patient is evaluated and an individualized therapy program established for strengthening, stabilization, flexibility, and pain control. This program requires a prescription from your physician and works well for those who need physical therapy but have difficulty tolerating rehabilitation exercises on dry land.
Aquatic Community Classes
These programs are staffed by a licensed Occupational or Therapeutic Recreational Therapist. The classes are for those who are more comfortable exercising in water than on dry land and wish to participate in a group setting.
Conditions Treated
Munson’s Aquatic Rehabilitation Therapy and Water Wellness programs are used by those with the following conditions:
Arthritis: rheumatoid and degenerative
Athletic injuries (may begin rehabilitating earlier in water)
Through the properties of warm water, patients can physically move easier and more comfortably. Due to the resistive quality of water even very weak muscles can be strengthened earlier in a therapeutic pool than on land. For those post-surgical patients, being introduced into water provides support to increase range of motion in a gravity-reduced environment. This facilitates functional abilities including transfers, activities of daily living, and overall strengthening in a successful therapeutic medium.
