Located
in the heart of the Munson
Medical Center Family Birth Center, this 20-bed special care
nursery provides skilled medical care for babies, while embracing
a family-centered philosophy in a developmentally sensitive environment.
As a Level IIIB regional referral center, babies come to the neonatal
unit from Munson Medical Center as well as other hospitals in
northern Michigan.
We encourage parents to visit the Neonatal
Unit anytime, as it is important for both you and your baby to
spend time together. No one is more important to your baby than
you are, and no one can care for your baby like you do.
When you arrive to the Neonatal Unit, a receptionist
or nurse will greet you. For your babys protection, each
visitor is asked to observe the hand washing policy posted above
the scrub area.
To help us protect your baby, ask yourself
and others if they have had recent exposure to infectious disease
(colds, chicken pox, flu, cold sores, or other illnesses). If
so, please refrain from visiting at this time. Babies need to
be as risk free as possible.
We understand the birth of a new baby is stressful
to new brothers and sisters. We know how important it is for brothers
and sisters to meet their new sibling and we try to provide opportunities
for sibling visitation. Please review visitation guidelines with
your babys nurse. They can offer helpful hints for successful
interaction between toddlers and new babies.
Parents are encouraged to call the NICU for
a progress report. Only parents will be given information about
their baby. Because parent infant bonding is so important, family
members and friends should contact the parents for information.
Even though we understand your family and friends concerns for
you and your baby, we request that they call you at home, not
in NICU.
If you are a Munson Healthcare patient and have a compliment,
concern, or complaint, please contact one of our Patient
Liaisons.
