Early detection of osteoporosis is important, but
often overlooked since people with the disease often have no warning
signs before a fracture occurs. Subtle signs of osteoporosis include:
A decrease in height
Posture that becomes slightly stooped
Clothes that no longer fit well
Hemlines on clothes that seem longer than you
remember
Back pain
Early and accurate diagnosis of osteoporosis is
essential for successful treatment. A bone density test (one type
is known as DEXA) provides the information needed to diagnose
osteoporosis. DEXA is available in your community and is a simple,
painless procedure, often completed in 20 minutes.
