Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

Cancer Care and A Whole Lot More

When complete, the Cowell Family Cancer Center will unite state-of-the-art treatment opportunities focused on fighting cancer in the convenience of one location. The Cowell Family Cancer Center will be northern Michigan’s most comprehensive resource for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and related disorders. It will offer the same outstanding quality of care that our communities have come to expect from Munson Medical Center.

The new Cancer Center will require approximately 83,000 square feet in a medical building adjacent to Munson Medical Center. The spacious, light-filled interior will include a full range of cancer-related outpatient services. Highly personalized and specialized cancer therapies will be practiced in a healing environment. Most importantly, the new Cancer Center will be designed to anticipate the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of each patient.

Patients no longer will have to travel to various locations for treatment. One section of the new Center will be dedicated to infusion therapy; another to radiation treatment. The third area will include physician offices, patient support services, a cancer resource library, research, and private spaces for genetic, financial, and other counseling services.

A Cancer Center will further strengthen our referral relationships with the oncology programs at the University of Michigan, the Mayo Clinic, Karmanos Cancer Center and other leading treatment centers. In addition, we plan to expand our capacity for pediatric cancer care through the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Pediatric Hematology/Oncology clinic currently established at Munson Medical Center.
