Recent Projects Supported by Community Gifts
As a non-profit organization, Munson Healthcare reinvests all of its revenue into expanding and upgrading health care facilities in northern Michigan. In addition, the community has historically responded generously to requests to help fund large facility projects vital to providing for the health and safety of the region’s residents and visitors.
Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital Renovations
Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital does an outstanding job of serving the health care needs of our community. We are dedicated to offering quality health care and remaining the choice of our residents. To do that, we need to continue upgrading the hospital to keep health care strong in Benzie County. These renovations will provide safer, faster, and more convenient patient care and services.
- Digital Mammography Suite Renovation: Completed in 2009, this vitally important medical service is now available in Benzie County.
- Emergency Room Renovation: Completed in Spring 2010, the first step of the renovation updated and enhanced existing emergency room patient care areas and expanded the nursing station.
- Acute Care Bed Relocation: Completed in 2011, this new addition consists of four patient rooms that connect directly with the emergency room which allowed us to relocate hospitalized, acute care patients to the first floor (from the second floor). Existing acute care rooms on the second floor will continue to be used as patient rooms for those waiting to be admitted to the long-term care unit.
- Mobile MRI Docking Unit: Completed in Fall 2011, this vitally important medical service is now available in Benzie County.

Munson's new Breast Health Center is the first comprehensive breast center north of Grand Rapids. The Center offers mammography screening, diagnostic testing, support, and education. An 8,100 square foot facility, located at Copper Ridge, opened on February 14, 2008.
Munson Medical Center Emergency Department
In January 2007, a new Emergency Department became a reality thanks in part to $10 million in community support, including $2 million from the Munson family of physicians, employees, volunteers, and board members. The Emergency Department includes private exam rooms and multi-bed trauma bays designed to maximize patient care, safety, and comfort. Patient satisfaction skyrocketed following the opening of the new department. Its "Journey to Excellence" project focused on customer service continues.
