Munson Health
Cowell Family Cancer Center

Each year, about 1,500 people are newly diagnosed with cancer at Munson Medical Center. In the next 10 years, we can expect a minimum of 20,000 new diagnoses of cancer, just within our five-county region. No other medical diagnosis elicits the same gut-wrenching emotional response. Virtually every one of us has a friend or family member who has dealt with this disease, and many in our community have personally experienced the rigors of treatment.

We believe state-of-the-art, coordinated cancer services is the next piece of the health care puzzle that must be provided in northern Michigan. At the core of this vision is a comprehensive $45 million cancer center. When complete, the Cowell Family Cancer Center will unite state-of-the-art treatment opportunities focused on fighting cancer in the convenience of one location. The Cowell Family Cancer Center will be northern Michigan’s most comprehensive resource for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and related disorders. The new cancer center will be designed to anticipate the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of each patient and will transform the standard for cancer care in northern Michigan.

In order to turn this plan into a reality, we need generous partners who will help lead the way. We cannot do this alone. Our goal is to raise $17 million so construction of the cancer center can begin in the spring of 2014. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Casey Cowell, we have a lead gift of $5 million. We seek partners who share our belief that the people of northern Michigan should have access to top quality health care, close to home.
