For patients with COPD or other chronic lung diseases, pulmonary rehabilitation offers a customized program of education and exercise to help them understand their disease, reduce symptoms, increase physical and social activities, promote self-reliance and independence, decrease their need for acute resources, and improve their overall quality of life.
Although COPD is the primary reason for referral to pulmonary rehabilitation, patients with other conditions may be appropriate candidates for pulmonary rehabilitation, including:
- Cystic fibrosis
- Interstitial lung disease
Participants meet three times a week for exercise where their oxygen needs are monitored.
Better Breather’s is a series of eight classes teaching patients how to live with COPD. It is offered on Monday’s at 1:30 – 3:00; the series of classes are repeated three times a year.
