Work
Hours and Moonlighting
The Family Practice Residency is a full-time commitment.
In recognition of the degree of maturity and professional responsibility
that has been obtained by residents in this program, set work
hours are variable dependent upon individual service requirements.
The residents are expected to fulfill all education and patient
care related duties on a daily basis. Residents are generally
expected to be available for duty beginning each morning at 7
am. Each resident is expected to complete all of their days work,
including all dictation's, before completion of the work-day.
Moonlighting is allowed only to the extent that
it does not conflict with the resident's patient care duties,
educational activities, and on-call duties. Any resident with
a limited educational license is not eligible to perform any moonlighting
activities. Second and third year residents that possess a full
Michigan License may engage in moonlighting activities only if
they do not interfere with their normal duties. Residents are
required to submit to the Program Director a Resident Moonlighting
Reporting Form. It is the prerogative of the Director of Medical
Education and/or the Program Director to prohibit moonlighting
activities if in his/her judgment it interferes with the residents
programmatic or educational duties.
Medical liability (malpractice) coverage
is provided by Munson Healthcare for each resident while performing
residency duties. It is important to note that this liability
coverage does not extend to moonlighting, outside consulting,
or other activities outside of the scope of this residency. It
is the resident's sole responsibility to arrange liability coverage
for all outside employment activities.
