Meet the Wellness Enthusiasts

Wellness Enthusiasts are employees who are not only healthy themselves, but excited to help others on their wellness journey.  Enthusiasts role model healthy behaviors, encourage co-workers, and spread the word about myWellness programming. So if you need a cheerleader along the way, just give one of these Enthusiasts a shout:

Dawn Gilbert, Community Health

I needed to lose weight and exercise regularly when I learned I had pre-diabetes. We started walking to Leslie Sansone’s “Walk away the pounds” DVD in November, loved it, and invited the building to join us from 12:00 to 12:30pm Monday through Thursday. Every day that I walk I have a great afternoon, just feel better and don’t have that after lunch crash feeling!! I’m 30 pounds lighter and have improved the pre-diabetes factors too!

Therese Cousins, Performance Services

Last year I moved to Traverse City and was fortunate enough to find many things that contribute to my wellness journey: Gratifying work,
A home on the VASA trail with access to some great biking, skiing, running and snow-shoeing.
A food coop and local farmers that support my plant based diet
An amazing yoga teacher
A community of friends and co-workers to share the journey.

Brigid Wilson, Child Care Center

I love to swim, kayak, bike ride, and x-country and downhill ski. I am also very passionate about reducing childhood obesity. My involvement with wellness initiatives in the community, such as the Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools Life Balance Initiative, allowed me to create and implement wellness. I helped the school plan the program and switch to scratch cooking with local ingredients.

Sherry Sisco, Radiology

My wellness journey started nearly 4 years ago. I was overweight and pre-diabetic which impacted my health in so many ways. I have a blended family; the mother of 5 and grandmother of 7. I wanted to be able to spend better quality time with my family. I lost an extensive amount of weight and have become physically active. ISince losing the weight I have done a 5K walk/run for a local charity. My biggest accomplishment to date was walking 100 miles in 30 days during the hottest part of the year last summer. I could not have done this without the love and support of my family and friends as well as having lost the weight. My goal is to have a healthy active lifestyle and to help inspire and encourage others, beginning with my family, to do the same.
