Munson Medical Center Needs Volunteers
Openings are available at the gift shop, as ambassadors, and as patient escorts

Munson Medical Center Volunteer Services has immediate openings for gift shop, ambassador and patient escort volunteers.

Patient escorts serve to transport discharge patients from their rooms to their vehicles at the front entrance. This position requires comfort in talking with people and the physical ability to transport people using a wheelchair, said Theresa Stachnik, manager of Volunteer Services. Volunteer candidates need to be flexible, willing to help patients, visitors, and staff and be able to walk throughout their shift. Openings are available Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., and 12:30 - 4:30 p.m. Escorts also are needed Saturday from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Ambassadors at the hospital assist patients, visitors and staff throughout the facility and provide support to admission’s staff. Ambassadors are often the first person a patient or visitor encounters at the hospital. These positions require physical ability to comfortably walk throughout the hospital and a high level of customer service skills.

The gift shop, located in the hospital’s main lobby, stocks an assortment of gift items for patients and their families. Responsibilities include operating the cash register, some light cleaning of the shop, light stocking of store shelves, and providing a high standard of customer service. The gift shop also organizes special sales throughout the year.

“All of the proceeds from gift shop sales go toward projects that promote a positive experience for patients at the hospital,” Stachnik said.

Gift shop openings are available: Monday& Friday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., 1 - 5 p.m.; Tuesday from 5 - 7:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from 5 - 7:30 p.m. “Our evening shifts from 5 - 7:30 p.m. work great for a couple who wants to volunteer together,” Stachnik said. “Two volunteers are scheduled per shift.”

Volunteers in all of these areas need to be flexible and willing to help patients, visitors, and staff. Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum consecutive six-month time period. Each volunteer shift is four hours once a week. Volunteers go through an orientation program and specific training for their duties.
