Open House to Honor Retiring Administrator Jim Austin
Kalkaska Memorial Health Center invites public from 4 - 6:30 p.m. on Tues. Jan. 28

Kalkaska-area community members are invited to an open house honoring retiring Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Administrator Jim Austin from 4 - 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at the William Kitti Education Center (Stone House) on the hospital campus.

Austin joined Munson Healthcare in 1989 as administrator of Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. Under his leadership, the hospital opened the first provider-based rural health clinic in the state in 1991 and the hospital became the second critical access hospital in the state in 1999. During his tenure, the hospital has been recognized for innovation, quality, and patient satisfaction.

“We’re inviting the community to come and wish Jim well in his retirement and thank him for his many contributions to this hospital and the community,” said Sheila Atwood, chief operating officer of the hospital. “Appetizers and refreshments will be served.”

The hospital board recently announced it has selected Austin’s successor, Kevin Rogols, who will join the hospital on Feb. 3. Austin will remain at the hospital until Feb. 28 to help with Rogol’s transition.

Austin began his career as a child care worker at the Michigan Department of Mental Health Residential Treatment Center, served as a social worker at a Department of Mental Health psychiatric hospital in Ionia, and before joining Munson Healthcare, was administrator for the Birchwood Center in Traverse City.
