Understanding the Health Insurance Marketplace
Program offers key information, dates for health care insurance

A special information session that outlines the Health Insurance Marketplace will be offered from 5:30 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Conference Rooms 1 - 3 at Munson Medical Center.

Trained Navigator Jennifer Hansen, of District Health Department #10, will offer information to help participants better understand the marketplace. She will provide facts on key dates, how to apply for coverage and the information enrollees will need, where to find local assistance, features of the Healthcare.gov website, levels of plans, individual mandate, exemptions to the mandate, and much more.

The session will be presented live on the REMEC TeleHealth Network.

Under the Affordable Care Act, health plans offered in the Health Insurance Marketplace must provide essential health benefits in 10 categories of care and follow established limits on cost-sharing.

People who do not meet the March 31 deadline will not be able to enroll in 2014. Lack of health insurance could result in a penalty of $95 or 1 percent of one’s income and half that amount per child. Fees will go up in 2015.

This program is free and open to the public, however registration is requested. To register, call (231) 935-9265 or go to munsonhealthcare.org/mmcclasses.

Munson Medical Center is located at 1105 Sixth St. in Traverse City.
