Heart to Heart for Woment Event This May
Heart to Heart for Women Event This May
Participants will receive a comprehensive screening for heart disease
National statistics show coronary heart disease, which causes heart attack, is the single leading cause of death for American women. One in three women will die of heart disease.
As part of Munson Medical Center’s ongoing Women’s Heart Health efforts, area women will again have the opportunity for a one-on-one heart disease screening during the weeks of May 14 and 21 at Munson Community Health Center in Traverse City.
Screenings will be performed by a registered nurse who has been specially trained to provide this service. Munson staff will provide the following tests and assessments, and spend time reviewing what the numbers mean for one’s heart health. The screening includes:
• Blood pressure
• Body mass index
• Depression and stress level assessment
• Nutrition review
• Smoking and alcohol assessment
• Family medical history review
• Blood test for glucose, lipid profile, and cholesterol levels
Participants will leave with a personalized action plan including risk factor reduction materials, steps for improving heart health, and referrals for further cardiac care as needed. Cost for the program is $45, and grants are available through a two-question approval process at the time of scheduling. To schedule an appointment, call (231) 935-8561.
Those who complete the comprehensive screening are eligible for a six-week women’s exercise class. Cost is $90, and grants are available. For more information on this class call (231) 935-8561. Munson Community Health Center is located at 550 Munson Ave. in Traverse City.
