Munson Medical Center was chosen as one of a select number of hospitals in Michigan to participate with messages on the float. Pilong filled out a message for a rose vial, thanking donor families and staff for their Gift of Life efforts.

Gift of Life Representative Scott Stahl said the hospital has had seven organ donors in 2013 and 30 tissue donations.

“We have successfully transplanted 20 organs, saving 17 lives,” Stahl said. “Munson also is in the top three hospitals in Michigan for tissue donations. It’s a phenomenal year for your hospital.”

Pilong said he appreciates the mission of Gift of Life Michigan.

“The gift of an organ is the gift of life. At Munson Medical Center, we are grateful for the selfless actions of our donor families, and for our dedicated staff whose compassionate commitment ensures the wishes of organ and tissue donors are realized,” he said.

Gift of Life statistics show that one organ donor can save up to eight lives, and each tissue donor can improve the lives of up to 50 people. In 2012, a record 524,000 people joined the Michigan Organ Donor Registry.

Registration to become a donor is as easy as going to the giftoflifemichigan.org web site and clicking on the “Sign Up Now” button.
