  • Diabetes affects 25.8 million people, which is 8.3% of the US population

  • Of those 25.8 million, 18.8 million have been diagnosed with diabetes while another 7 million remain undiagnosed

  • Women who have had gestational diabetes have a 35% to 60% increase of developing diabetes in the next 10-20 years

  • Medical expenses for those with diabetes are more than two times higher than people without diabetes

Diabetes education is an important part of successfully managing diabetes. Within our 11-county region there are many opportunities for those with pre-diabetes and diabetes to learn more about how to manage. Most insurances do cover diabetes education on an annual basis and many local programs do offer scholarships to those who may need to utilize them.
