Patients who experience a stroke are cared for in Munson Medical Center’s state-of-the-art stroke unit located on the top floor of the Webber Heart Center. Specialty care is provided by Munson’s expert stroke team. More than 400 patients are cared for each year on Munson’s stroke unit.
Primary Stroke Center

- The Joint Commission, in conjunction with the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, certifies that Munson Medical Center provides evidence-based best practices to stroke patients in northern Michigan.
- Munson’s stroke program meets all critical elements of performance to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes for stroke patients.
Value Health Partners, a group of seven Michigan health care organizations, including Munson Healthcare, sponsor a stroke video competition to help increase stroke awareness. Participants create a 60-second public service video that helps the public easily recall stroke symptoms and what to do.

- Do not drive yourself to the hospital. EMS personnel can begin evaluation and treatment en route to the hospital and will alert the hospital's team to be ready for your arrival.
