Teen Health Corner

a place for you

A unique clinic just for you

The teen years can be difficult. There’s a lot of pressure on you to do well in school, fit in with your friends, and make the right choices. You might not know where to turn if you have questions, especially if those questions are about your health. You rely on your friends, but they may not have all the right answers.

Get answers to all your questions

Did you know there’s a resource right here in Kalkaska that you can trust? The Kalkaska Teen Health Corner can answer your questions and provide medical services in a place you’ll be comfortable.

At the Teen Health Corner, you can receive:

  • Immunizations
  • Mental health care
  • Nutrition and exercise counseling
  • Primary care
  • Reproductive health care
  • Sports and annual physicals
  • Urgent care

The clinic is not like any doctor’s office you’ve ever been in. There are video rocker chairs and magazines you’ll actually want to read in the waiting rooms, cool murals on the walls, and no sterile paper gowns or sheets. You’ll be given fleece blankets, cloth gowns, and fluffy pillows to use during your visit, and the staff will make sure you are comfortable with any procedure you will experience.

You don’t have to worry about the cost of these services either. The Teen Health Corner accepts all insurances, including state programs like MI Child and Healthy Kids. For families without insurance, a sliding fee scale makes the services affordable, and staff will help your family apply for state insurances. You won’t ever be turned away if you can’t pay for the services you need.
You can trust the staff at the Teen Health Corner. They have experience working with teens, and will take you seriously. There’s no such thing as a “dumb question,” and whatever you say at the Teen Health Corner stays there.

The clinic also has outreach workers with offices right in your school. The outreach workers can answer your questions, schedule appointments at the clinic, tell you about useful programs in the community, and even help you with transportation to your appointment if needed.

You will need your parents’ permission for most services, except some that are protected by Michigan law. You can get a consent form from your school or at the clinic.

The clinic has hours that work with your schedule. It is open Monday and Tuesday from 10 am - 5 pm; Wednesday and Friday from 8 - 11 am; and Thursday from 8 am - 6 pm. You can either make an appointment or just come in when you need help.

The Teen Health Corner, a partnership between Kalkaska Memorial Health Center, Kalkaska Public Schools, and Forest Area Community Schools, is funded through the hospital and a Michigan Department of Community Health Grant, with in-kind support from Kalkaska and Forest Area school districts. The Teen Health Corner has been serving area teens since 2006.

Although the Teen Health Corner is primarily offered to students age 10 - 21 at Kalkaska and Forest Area schools, home schooled and charter school students are encouraged to use the clinic, and students from other districts are welcome.
