Munson Professional Building (MPB) Laboratory and Radiology has reopened following renovations due to severe flooding in late-May.
Located on the west side of Munson Medical Center’s campus at 1221 Sixth Street, MPB Lab and Radiology are open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. The space now offers more privacy for registration, closer parking and other enhancements, including those for pediatric patients as well as STAT or priority lab services.
“While the flooding was disruptive for both patients and staff, there has been a silver lining in that it’s provided us the opportunity to make some improvements that will enhance the patient experience,” said Casey Kandow, Munson Healthcare vice president of Ancillary Services.
These enhancements include a room specifically for pediatric patients as well as a special appointment pre-registration process and guided service to reduce anxiety for pediatric patients and their guardians. Parents may call the lab at 231-935-6100 to schedule an appointment. Radiology services other than walk-in X-ray require a provider order and appointment.
Patients should use the MPB entrance and park in Lot C, to the south of the MPB building – Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. All visitors using Laboratory and Radiology services are required to be masked when they enter the building and can expect to be screened for COVID-19.
“While everyone is screened before entering, to further lower any risk we are also asking patients to please enter through the MPB entrance on weekdays rather than walking through the hospital from the main entrance,” Kandow said.
Patients in need of Lab or Radiology services on the weekend should visit the main lobby area at Munson Medical Center from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Patients may park in the Lot A parking structure near the main entrance.
The re-opening of the Munson Professional Building Lab and Radiology services marks a significant milestone since a flooding event on May 28 impacted 23 different departments at Munson Medical Center. After 4,000 hours of labor over the past three months the majority of those repairs are now complete with new measures in place to mitigate such an event in the future. The hospital has added additional pumps to boost water flow in storm drains to retention areas, created a temporary berm, staged additional resources and refined flood response protocols.
“Our insurance provider has commented that they’ve never seen a better response given the circumstances,” said Rob Richardson, Munson Healthcare vice president of Facilities. “Our team did an incredible job of pulling together during this unprecedented event and we’ll be even better prepared in the future.”
