Munson Medical Center’s Family Birthing Center was recently named among the “Best Maternity Hospitals 2020” by Newsweek and The Leapfrog Group while a separate “Best Hospitals of 2020-21” recognition by U.S. News & World Report, also listed Munson Medical Center as the sixth best hospital in the state of Michigan overall.

“We are grateful to be recognized nationally for the ongoing quality of care in our Maternity Unit and across the hospital,” said Matt Wille, president and CEO of Munson Medical Center. “Each of these recognitions is a reflection of the dedication and expertise of our nurses, physicians, and support staff who are focused every day on providing our patients the very highest level of care.”

Newsweek partnered with Leapfrog, the national non-profit patient safety organization, to find the top hospitals for a safe and high-quality birthing experience. Munson Medical Center was named among 10 hospitals in Michigan and 230 other hospitals across 36 states.

Hospitals named to the list met The Leapfrog Group’s stringent quality standards that include low rates of C-sections, episiotomies, early elective deliveries, and hospitals that follow vital protocols to protect both mothers and babies.

“Though these are standards aligned with medical research and best practices, not all hospitals achieve them. The facilities cited by Newsweek as Best Maternity Hospitals 2020 are an elite group demonstrating excellence in maternity care,” the magazine stated on its website.

The hospital delivers more than 1,800 babies annually. Its 19-bed Family Birthing Center offers private birthing rooms where mom and baby spend their stay in the hospital. Rooms are furnished with the right equipment to support a high-quality birth experience.

Meanwhile, the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals list recognized Munson Medical Center as high performing in nine areas including for: heart failure, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, heart bypass surgery, colon cancer surgery, lung cancer surgery, hip replacement, knee replacement, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
