02.22.2021

Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital and Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital have launched a joint operating agreement to bring state of the art rehabilitation services to Grayling. Mary Free Bed will now manage the outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapy services in Grayling, retaining the local team of therapists that patients know and trust.

Mary Free Bed is one of the largest and most comprehensive rehabilitation hospitals in the United States, providing more than 110 specialized medical and sports rehabilitation programs. Their exclusive focus on rehabilitation enables their specialty physicians and staff to help patients achieve outstanding clinical results. Mary Free Bed consistently exceeds the national average, and in some areas, leads the way. Its rehabilitation network expands this same outstanding expertise to other Midwest regions, including three dozen hospitals in Michigan and Indiana.

The collaboration with Grayling Hospital gives patients the convenience of nationally recognized rehabilitative services close to home. Greater focus on stroke and brain injury recovery, joint rehab, and cognitive pain therapy are just a few of the enhancements patients have access to thanks to the new partnership.

“We are thrilled to have access to the world class rehabilitation services offered by Mary Free Bed.  This new partnership enables us to expand our capabilities, retain our current team of therapists and most importantly, provide exceptional rehab services for patients right here in our community,” said Kirsten Korth-White, president of Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital.

Mary Free Bed has collaborated with Munson Medical Center for inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services since 2019. In 2020, the inpatient unit in Traverse City treated 395 patients with a discharge to home status of 81 percent, exceeding that of the national average.  Mary Free Bed at Munson Medical Center patients achieved more functional improvement than the national average as measured through the Quality Reporting Program. The transition to Mary Free Bed allows for the expansion of these best practices and state of the art care for outpatients in the Grayling area.

“Mary Free Bed enjoys a tremendous relationship with Munson Medical Center, and we’re excited to expand this partnership to additional hospitals within the Munson Healthcare system,” said Kent Riddle, president and CEO of Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. “Together we’ll add programs, enhance services and promote recovery in northern Michigan.”

The new program is called Mary Free Bed at Munson Healthcare.  Similar changes are taking place at Munson Healthcare Cadillac Hospital.  For further details on the new partnership and Mary Free Bed at Munson Healthcare, visit MaryFreeBedatMunson.org.
