Otsego Memorial Hospital Receives Robotic Surgery Accreditation

04.07.2022

Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital recently achieved accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery, recognized for providing the highest quality of care and patient safety by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC).

Status as an accredited facility means that the hospital has met nationally and internationally recognized standards. Not all health care providers seek accreditation; not all that undergo the rigorous requirements and inspection process are granted accreditation.

“Our surgical teams and providers have worked very hard over the past year preparing for SRC’s visit and review of our work.  We are proud to be recognized as a Center of Excellence, as this demonstrates the exceptional quality of our team and the extraordinary care we provide our patients.”, said Chris Squire, community president, Otsego Memorial Hospital.

Healthcare facilities and surgeons seeking an SRC accreditation undergo an extensive assessment and inspection process to ensure the applicant meets SRC’s proven standards and requirements. These requirements include surgical volumes, facility equipment, clinical pathways and standardized operating procedures, an emphasis on patient education, and continuous quality assessment. The inspection involves all staff working in the accredited program. Inspectors educate staff on best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.

“We’re proud to recognize Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital for its commitment to advancing and providing quality care for all patients,” said Gary M. Pratt, CEO of SRC. “This accreditation signals that this facility is among the best in this specialty and is dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible.”

In addition to the hospital’s accreditation, four Munson Healthcare providers also achieved Surgeon of Excellence status. They include Lindsay Harden, D.O., general surgery;  John Moffat, M.D., general surgery; James Shurlow, D.O., general surgery, and Stacey Sensor, D.O., OB/GYN.

“I am so proud of the staff, surgeons, and leaders who made this accreditation possible. Their dedication to quality, efficiency, and excellence has promoted the success of this program, offering patients a revolutionary technology that provides life-enhancing care. It goes to show that small hospitals can achieve big things, while keeping our patients right in the center of what we do.” said Kathy Berlin, M.S.N., R.N., Otsego Memorial Hospital director of Surgical Services.

Established in 2003, Surgical Review Corporation is an internationally recognized, nonprofit, patient safety organization dedicated to recognizing and refining surgical care. The organization accredits the top hospitals, surgeons and health professionals worldwide that meet its proven standards.
