Munson Medical Center received recognition as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals for 2022 and as one of the top 15 teaching hospitals in the nation. It is the 15th time the hospital has achieved the award.
There were 2,650 hospitals nationwide included in the annual study by Fortune/Merative that led to the national rankings. This year marks the 28th anniversary of the award which is based on publicly available Medicare data from 2020.
“To achieve a top 100 ranking is never easy. But to now achieve it for the 15th time speaks to the consistency of the safe, quality care that our entire team provides every day,” said Matt Wille, president and CEO of Munson Medical Center. “This award is not only a reflection of the dedication of the people who work here but the commitment and support from our community for which we are so grateful.”
The 100 Top Hospitals 2022 rankings are based on overall organizational performance and are released annually – this year by the Fortune/Merative collaboration. Merative was formerly IBM Watson Health, it became a standalone company in 2022.
Fortune/Merative examined clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, patient experience, and financial health of the organizations to achieve the rankings. The top 100 hospital study showed facilities on the list:
- Scored higher on patient ratings of their overall patient experience
- Kept inpatient expenses low while maintaining a healthy financial environment
- Had lower 30-day hospital-wide readmission rates
- Had fewer patient complications
- Delivered care that resulted in fewer hospital-acquired infections
- Had lower inpatient mortality, considering patient severity
- Sent patients home sooner
Merative found that if every hospital nationally achieved the same performance level of 100 Top Hospitals:
- 104,000 patient deaths would be prevented
- 55,000 patients would be kept from complications
- $12.5 billion would be saved in spending on inpatient care
Munson Medical Center previously received the 100 Top Hospitals award in 1993, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
