The College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to the Munson Healthcare Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital Laboratory based on results of a recent on-site inspection. Paul Oliver is now one of is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide. The accreditation is valid for a period of two years.

“This accreditation demonstrates that the Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital Laboratory has successfully fulfilled the CAP’s rigorous and thorough inspection process, a significant achievement demonstrating an ongoing high level of performance,” said Laura Gottfried, MD, Director of Laboratory Services for Paul Oliver. “We are proud of our laboratory team for this recognition of their excellent service to the patients in our community.”

“It is wonderful to work with such a dedicated group of lab professionals who understand that there is a patient behind every result,” noted Sandra Honigfort, Paul Oliver Laboratory Manager.

The U. S. recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in early 1960’s, as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program. During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all patients, inspectors examine the records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also review staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and records, and overall management.

As the world’s largest organization of board-certified pathologists and leading provider of laboratory accreditation and proficiency testing programs, the CAP serves patients, pathologists, and the public by fostering and advocating excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine worldwide.
