Gaylord is a thriving community of about 3,700 residents. It is a great place to live and raise a family with good public and private schools, affordable housing, and plenty of shopping and restaurants. A favorite summer evening for locals includes stopping for an ice cream cone and then visiting the city’s elk herd – yes, an elk herd right in town. Gaylord also is famous for world-class golf at 15 beautiful golf courses.

Home to the University Center of Gaylord, adult students can obtain multiple certifications, as well as associate, bachelor, and master’s degrees from Ferris State University, Michigan State University, Spring Arbor University, and others.

This lively community hosts many fun festivals and events. Not to be missed in the summer are the Wings Over Northern Michigan Air Show, Gaylord Alpenfest, and the 120-mile AuSable River Canoe Marathon, one of the original ultra-endurance sporting events.  

Gaylord is the seat of Otsego County, as well as the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gaylord, making it the smallest community to have a cathedral.
