EMS Education in Northern Michigan

Munson Medical Center EMS Education offers classes for everyone – from camp counselors and day care providers who need to learn basic first aid and CPR skills, to EMS personnel who want to advance their careers to the next level, to health care professionals who need to learn or refresh their lifesaving skills.

Accredited Programs, Excellent Education

Munson Medical Center EMS Education is recognized as one of the best EMS Education programs in the state.

National Association of Emergency Medical TechniciansNational Association of Emergency Medical Technicians: This program is an authorized provider of National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) programs, including Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) which promotes critical thinking while addressing multi-system trauma through the latest evidence-based practices.

CoAEMSP logoCommittee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Professionals: Munson Medical Center’s Paramedic program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP Executive Office). This letter is not a CAAHEP accreditation status. It signifies that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation Standards through the Letter of Review Self Study Report and other documentation. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians for eligibility to take its paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is not a guarantee of eventual accreditation.

Classes for the General Public

If you saw a child or adult who was choking, bleeding profusely, or needed CPR, would you know what to do? Munson Medical Center EMS Education offers courses for the general public to teach life-saving skills to anyone who may be in a position to rescue a child or adult in a life-threatening situation.

Classes are open to those who want to learn basic skills, including employees in the workplace, day care employees, babysitters, firefighters, police, airline personnel, security guards, or family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death who may need to respond to an emergency. Classes include:

  • Basic Life Support CPR/AED
  • Heartsaver® First Aid
  • Heartsaver® CPR/AED

Munson Medical Center Regional EMS Education offers exceptional education for every level of your EMS career, from medical responder to paramedic training. Advanced Placement

Munson Regional EMS Education also offers advanced placement courses for RNs wishing to obtain a license in EMS. Advanced placement is defined as recognizing the prior learning a student has acquired and applying that learning to our program’s requirements. The student must complete the EMT-Basic course in its entirety then either proceed to the paramedic class (1 day a week rather than 2) or may opt to take both classes simultaneously. An EMT-Basic license is required prior to completing the Paramedic course.
