Reopening Schedule 

Cafeterias 

Week of June 1, 2020

  • Cafeterias will be open to staff/providers only; not patients/visitors. 
  • Social distancing will be enforced and congregating discouraged.

Cardiovascular Services 

Week of May 25, 2020

  • Traverse Heart & Vascular (THV): Piloting expansion to 75% in-person visits.

Week of May 18, 2020 

  • Traverse City, Cadillac, Manistee, and Gaylord Cardiac Rehab sites will open at 50% schedule.  

Week of May 4, 2020

  • THV will be reopening all outreach clinics and increase in person visits to 50% in all locations.
  • Outpatient cardiac diagnostics will also reopen in these communities.
  • At Munson Medical Center, the Cardiac Cath Lab will reopen to all coronary, peripheral, and electrophysiology cases.

Week of April 27, 2020 

  • Traverse Heart & Vascular (THV) reinitiated 25% in person visits in Traverse City, Cadillac, and Grayling.
  • Outpatient cardiac diagnostics also reopened in these communities with limited schedules.

Week of May 18, 2020

  • Munson Medical Center will open to limited outpatient adult and pediatric studies.

Lab Services 

Week of May 25, 2020 

  • The lab draw sites at Traverse Bay Internal Medicine and Kingsley will open.

Week of May 18, 2020 

  • West Front Primary Care draw station will open.

Week of May 4, 2020 

  • In Traverse City, the draw stations at West Front Primary Care and Foster Family Community Health Center will reopen. Munson Professional Building (MPB) will expand hours.
  • Our regional communities will maintain current draw sites and evaluate reopening of additional sites as volume warrants.

Oncology Services 

Week of June 1, 2020

  • Brachytherapy and Space Oar Procedures: Re-initiating consistent with surgical services reopening.
  • Medical Oncology: Increasing in-office visits to 50% with remaining 50% provided via telehealth.

Week of May 18, 2020

  • Regional Infusion Clinics: Initiated non-chemotherapy infusion.

Week of May 4, 2020 

  • Cowell Family Cancer Center Infusion Center will open to non-chemo patients requiring critical/time sensitive services and will provide Prolia injections on a limited basis via a fast track process.
  • Regional infusion sites will handle non- chemo infusions on a case-by-case basis to determine if they are able to safely accommodate these patients.

MHC Ambulatory Clinics (Primary Care & Specialty) 

Week of May 4, 2020

  • First consideration will still be given to delivering care virtually if possible. 
    • If not, currently open locations will begin increasing in-person visits up to 50% of total visits. 
  • Two slots per day in primary care and surgical practices will be held for preoperative assessment and/or hospital follow up visits.

  • Preoperative Assessment Clinic (TC): Reopening with limited schedule to support preoperative clearances necessary for surgical reopening.  

Munson Manor (Traverse City)

Week of June 1, 2020

  • Will partially reopen to guests with limited office hours (8 am – 6 pm).
  • Guest room reservations will be limited to 6 checkouts/day.

Outpatient Pharmacies 

Week of June 1, 2020

  • MMC Discharge Pharmacy: Off-duty employees will now be able access the MMC Discharge Pharmacy on-site (mask required).
  • All Outpatient Pharmacies: Curbside service will continue.

Pulmonary Function Testing

Week of May 25, 2020

  • Charlevoix and Gaylord PFTs to reopen with limited outpatient schedules consistent with other locations.

Week of May 18, 2020 

  • Pulmonary Function Testing will reopen at all MHC hospital locations with limited schedules.

Radiology Services 

Week of June 1, 2020

  • General X-Ray:
    • Locations currently open will now accept all walk-in patients. (NOTE: stat/urgent no longer required on order form.)
    • Interlochen location to re-open.
  • Other Modalities: Increasing appointment availability based on demand.
  • MRIs Requiring General Anesthesia: Munson Medical Center to begin scheduling patients, with services starting June 9. Patients will be tested pre-procedure using the established pre-procedure testing process.

Week of May 18, 2020

  • Mammography: Smith Family Breast Health Center (Traverse City) and all regional mammography locations will begin scheduling backlogged patients for diagnostic and screening exams. 
  • MRI: Foster Family Community Health Center (Traverse City) to expand hours Monday - Friday, 7 am - 9:30 pm.

Week of May 4, 2020

  • All Munson Healthcare locations for MRI and PET will resume at 100% schedules. 
  • Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, Fluoro, and Ultrasound will resume at 50% normal outpatient schedules.
  • General Radiology – Foster Family Community Health Center general x-ray will re-open, all other outreach sites will remain closed.

Time sensitive procedures (e.g., biopsies) will be reviewed to determine if additional slots need to be added.

Rehab Services

Week of May 18, 2020 

  • Speech Pathology: Visits and studies will primarily be conducted via telehealth. If telehealth is not an option, urgent studies to be performed in person at all MHC hospital locations.
  • Regional Outpatient Therapy:
    • Cadillac, Gaylord, Grayling, and Manistee hospital campus Outpatient Therapy locations will reopen at 50% schedules.
    • Additional regional off-campus sites operating on limited (2 days/week) schedules: Interlochen, Benzonia, Betsie Hosick (Frankfort), Boyne, and East Jordan.

Week of May 11, 2020 

  • Outpatient Physical Therapy (Grand Traverse Region):
    • Re-opening Long Lake, Chums Corner, and Elk Rapids sites at 50% schedule.
    • Videostroboscopy and videofluoroscopy at MMC will reopen with a limited schedule.

Week of May 4, 2020

  • MMC Inpatient Rehab: Expanding capacity from 16 to 20 beds.
  • Outpatient Physical Therapy (Grand Traverse Region):
    • Reopen Foster Family Community Health Center at 50% capacity.
    • Cancer Rehab will operate out of Foster Family Community Health Center and see limited, essential patients only.
    • Post Discharge Clinic will also operate out of Foster Family Community Health Center.
  • Physical Medicine and Rehab/Mary Free Bed Physician’s Office (Foster Family Community Health Center) will initiate 50% in-person visits.

Sleep Services

Week of June 1, 2020

  • Charlevoix: Will reopen 3 days/week and will only conduct PSG studies.
  • Manistee: Will reopen 3 days/week and conduct PSG studies and PAP titrations with PAP patients tested pre-procedure using the established pre-procedure testing process.

Week of May 11, 2020

  • Foster Family Community Health Center Sleep Disorders Center (FFCHCSDC) to primarily perform consults via telehealth, limiting in-person visits to those patients without access to technology to perform the telehealth visit. 
  • FFCHCSDC to reopen to approximately 50% capacity of in-house PSG or MSLT studies.

Surgical Services

Week of May 25, 2020 

  • We will begin the expansion of surgical procedures, including expanding boarding to include elective procedures in preparation for the expiration of EO 2020-17.

Week of May 11, 2020

  • Kalkaska Memorial Health Center reopening outpatient surgical services.

Week of May 4, 2020

  • Cadillac and Grayling surgical services to reopen 5/8/20. Initial schedule of Monday/Wednesday/Friday to stack cases for efficiency.
  • The boarding criteria of Tiers 1-4 plus select 5A with approval remains unchanged. All scheduled surgeries will be reviewed by a designated surgeon leader to assure strict compliance to the guidelines.

Week of April 27, 2020 

  • Surgical leadership began the process of moving from our current Tier 1 and Tier 2 boarding criteria to incorporating Tiers 3, 4 and select Tier 5a.

  • This next phase of re-opening of surgical cases applies to existing sites performing surgery (Munson Medical Center, Manistee Hospital, Otsego Memorial Hospital) plus Charlevoix Hospital and the Cadillac General Surgery office. Sites will maintain limited OR schedules, cases are vertically stacked, and block time will not be reinstated at this phase.

  • In addition, viral filters for our anesthesia machines have become a critical supply as they are used only one time then disposed.

  • All surgeries being scheduled or already scheduled will be reviewed by a designated surgeon leader to assure strict compliance to the guidelines. If your designated leader is not available, Dr. Walt Noble will be available to review the case for the Munson Healthcare system.
