Sleep Disorder and Pulmonary Consultations with James G. Milliken, MD, FACCP
You or your spouse may notice or complain about some of the following:
- Loud snoring
- Gasping or choking episodes with sleeping
- Shortness of breath
- Difficulty breathing while lying flat
- Witnessed episodes of stopping breathing while asleep
- Restless sleep
Sleep disorders can lead to serious health issues. For example, sleep apnea, which is characterized by abnormal pauses in breathing during sleep, is often associated with serious cardiovascular disease, namely:
- Hypertension
- Coronary artery disease
- Congestive heart failure
- Stroke
Treating sleep apnea and other sleep-related breathing disorders may actually decrease a person’s risk of developing some of these cardiovascular diseases. If you, or your spouse, notice any of the above symptoms, ask your doctor about scheduling a consultation with a board-certified sleep physician.
Make an appointment for sleep services by calling our office at 231-935-0600. A referral is only required for sleep disorder or pulmonary appointments.
