Preparing for the Birth of Your Child
The best thing a woman can do to prepare for a healthy child is to pay close attention to her own health. Even before you are expecting, making healthy choices – such as quitting smoking, getting plenty of rest, and eating well – strengthens your body for the amazing task of growing a new life.
When it is time to prepare for the birth of your baby, consider taking part in a childbirth class, which will include a tour of your hospital’s birthing center. You and your support person will learn relaxation and breathing techniques, how to prepare for labor and delivery, exercises, and what to expect when you come to the hospital. Daytime and evening classes are available, including refresher courses. Class times and fees vary at each location.
