Munson Healthcare offers many resources for employees and their families who want to maintain or improve their health. Whether you want to manage a chronic disease, shed a few pounds, join a Sports Club, or learn to cook in a healthier way, you can find the support and information you need.

All resources are available to eligible employees and dependents throughout the Munson Healthcare system.

Community Health Library

Munson Healthcare’s Community Health Library is located in Traverse City and serves as a great resource for everyone in northern Michigan. Health information professionals are available to answer questions in person, by phone, or email. They can help you find the information you need from reliable sources. The library has an extensive collection and hosts classes and speakers with relevant health information.   


HealthbyChoice is a wellness program that encourages you to learn about your personal health risks and helps you make healthier lifestyle choices in exchange for lower insurance costs. This program is available to employees and spouses covered by Munson Healthcare’s insurance plan through Priority Health. If you have questions, contact your Benefits Office or call the number on the back of your Priority Health insurance card.

Healthy Weight Center

You can prevent or reverse serious health issues by reaching and maintaining a healthy weight. If other weight loss programs have not worked, the medically supervised program at Foster Family Community Health Center in Traverse City may be for you. Our team takes a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to help you find weight loss success. The Healthy Weight Center offers five program options. Choose the one that best fits your needs, schedule, and budget. 

National Diabetes Prevention Program

Have you ever been told that you are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes? Do you have pre-diabetes, borderline diabetes, high blood sugar/glucose, or had gestational diabetes? You may be at high risk for type 2 diabetes, but there is something you can do about it.

A program designed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can help you learn how to change your lifestyle to prevent type 2 diabetes. Groups meet for 16 weekly sessions and six monthly follow-up sessions with a trained lifestyle coach. Classes are offered across northern Michigan by the following partners:

Northern Michigan Diabetes Initiative

The Northern Michigan Diabetes Initiative is a 14-county regional collaborative. NMDI provides education and resources for people living with diabetes, as well as local, regional, and national resources for the prevention and management of diabetes. NMDI's overall goal is to reduce the prevalence of diabetes and improve the care of people with diabetes. NMDI education and awareness efforts target three areas: patients, providers, and the community. More than 30 public and private organizations participate in NMDI. Key partners include Munson Healthcare, Priority Health, regional health care providers/practices, and local public health departments.

Shape Up North 

Obesity has been identified as the top health issue facing our region. In response, Shape Up North was created as a true community collaboration dedicated to helping northern Michigan residents achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Shape Up North’s vision is to help people of all ages and fitness levels achieve a standard of health that allows them to take full advantage of the “up north” lifestyle. Shape Up North is a resource for anyone who is interested in health, wellness, and fitness.
