A Model for Rural Healthcare
Munson Healthcare is transforming interventional stroke care in rural communities with Munson Medical Center’s state-of-the-art ARTIS Icono Biplane Angiography System from Siemens that is:
- The only one in Michigan
- One of seven in the United States
- One of 49 in the world
Gary Rajah, MD, Director of Endovascular Stroke Program
A graduate of Wayne State and proud Michigander, Dr. Gary Rajah, Director of Endovascular Stroke Care, joined Munson Healthcare in June 2020 from the world-class Gates Vascular Institute in Buffalo, New York. In September, he and his team performed the first thrombectomy in Munson Medical Center’s history and continue to expand stroke and neuro care for communities across the region.
When Minutes Matter
Minutes matter. A one hour delay in treating a stroke can age the brain by four years and each minute delayed could result in the loss of 1.9 million neurons.
It’s estimated that each year 200-250 northern Michigan stroke cases require a transfer to downstate facilities. Providing endovascular intervention to these patients at Munson Medical Center means saving time, saving lives and preserving quality of life with better functional outcomes.
Virtual Press Conference
