Our Clinical Engineering team is a highly engaged group of Biomedical Equipment Technicians and Radiology Engineering Specialists. Patient care is truly at the center of everything we do in Clinical Engineering. We are dedicated to providing safe, reliable medical equipment for the care of our patients. Working under the direction of the Clinical Engineering Manager, Biomedical Technicians provide calibration, installation, as well as routine and emergency service and repair to general and specialized medical devices such as patient monitors, IV pumps, ventilators, and clinical diagnostic equipment.
Radiology Engineering Specialists (also known as Imaging or Radiology Equipment Specialists) provide calibration, installation, planned maintenance, safety testing, routine and emergency service and repair to general and various specialized radiology equipment including general radiology/fluoroscopy units, portable units, C-arms, digital X-Ray detectors, mammography, MRI, DSA, CT, nuclear medicine, cardiac catheterization labs, ultrasound or systems networking equipment.

Biomedical Technician Internship: This short-term opportunity is designed for students further along in their associate’s degree in a biomedical equipment technology program.
Biomedical Technician I: This is the entry-level role for those who have graduated from or are currently enrolled in an associate’s degree program for biomedical equipment technology or electronics technology. As a biomedical technician I, you must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the theory of operation and basic principles associated with the use and instrumentation needed to maintain medical devices.
Biomedical Technician II: This position is for those with a minimum of two years’ experience in health care biomedical equipment repair and calibration, as well as an associate’s degree in biomedical technology or electronic technology, or military training in biomedical equipment service.
Biomedical Technician III: This position requires a minimum of four years of experience in health care biomedical equipment repair and calibration, as well as an associate’s degree in biomedical technology or electronic technology, or military training in biomedical equipment service. Certification from the International Certification Commission as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) is also required.

Northwestern Michigan College now offers a biomedical equipment technician specialization, within the Engineering Technology AAS Degree. The degree specialization gives students an in-depth knowledge of the high technology equipment used in hospitals, clinics, and medical facilities.
Our hospital also places strong emphasis on internal education, providing opportunities to learn in simulation labs and from hands-on experience and training. Clinical Engineering offers support for biomedical technicians interested in earning their CBET certification.
