Remain Vigilant: Mpox

03.28.2024

Recently, Michigan confirmed the 1st cases of mpox since March 2023.

  • As of March 26, there have been 11 new confirmed/probable mpox cases in Southern Michigan.
  • The patient characteristics are similar to those associated with the mpox outbreak in 2022, i.e., young men who primarily identify as men who have sex with men (MSM) and history of STIs, including persons with HIV (PWH).

Although significantly lower than the number of cases during the peak of the outbreak in 2022, MDHHS urges providers to test patients where there is clinical suspicion and encourage vaccination to stay protected and prevent further spread.
