Stroke Technology

Biplane Imaging

Biplane imaging is one of the most advanced interventional medical imaging technologies available. In fact, Munson Healthcare is the only stroke program in northern Michigan and one of just a few in the nation to have this equipment.

The biplane utilizes two rotating cameras, one on each side of the patient, to produce simultaneous and highly detailed images of blood vessels, soft tissue, and blood flow in real-time.

3-D biplane imaging helps clinicians path blood flow through vessels, locate blockages that cause ischemic strokes, and identify aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations (a tangle of arteries and veins) that cause hemorrhagic strokes.

Biplane imaging is the gold standard in interventional medical imaging technology and enables:

  • Faster, more accurate diagnostic and treatment decisions for stroke patients
  • Easy-to-read, real-time views of brain perfusion in greater detail
  • Dynamic analysis to visualize and analyze image data, show contrast changes over time, and monitor parameters related to blood flow

Combining diagnosis and treatment into one procedure saves precious time and can make all the difference in recovery for patients with acute stroke or severe neurovascular complications.

This means our medical teams can provide comprehensive care for even the most complex of scenarios and respond faster to the needs of northern Michigan.

AI Imaging

The Viz.ai platform uses artificial intelligence to create high-quality images from CT and MRI diffusion and perfusion scans.

These images are quickly shared between Munson Healthcare locations to help your care team make quicker stroke triage and transfer decisions.
