If you or a loved one is experiencing an urgent mental health crisis that is not immediately life-threatening—such as severe depression, anxiety, manic episodes, suicidal thoughts, or severe symptoms due to substance use disorder— the supportive staff at Grand Traverse Mental Health Crisis and Access Center can help.

The Grand Traverse Mental Health Crisis and Access Center brings 24/7/365 crisis intervention, stabilization services, and support under one roof in a physically, psychologically, and emotionally safe environment that promotes healing. The crisis center welcomes all people, all ages, and all forms of insurance (copays and deductibles will apply for those with insurance).

Our Services

Grand Traverse Mental Health Crisis & Access Center offers a variety of services to support you or a loved one during a difficult time—from screenings to assess your immediate needs to one-on-one crisis intervention, referrals to helpful ongoing services, and more.  

 

 

What to Expect

When you arrive at the Crisis and Access Center, a staff member will greet you and ask a few questions to understand how we can best support you. A staff member will meet with you—and a family or friend, should you choose—to talk about what you're experiencing and what you need right now. Together, we’ll create a plan that focuses on your safety, comfort, and the support you need moving forward. Everyone leaves with a clear plan for ongoing support.

 

Behavioral health assessments

Thorough evaluations that help identify mental health needs and guide the safest, most appropriate care plan.

Face-to-face crisis intervention

In‑person support provided during urgent mental health situations to stabilize safety and connect individuals to care.

Pre-admission screenings

Clinical screening that reviews symptoms and safety concerns to determine if psychiatric inpatient treatment is needed.

Psychiatric Urgent Care

Walk‑in mental health support offering timely evaluations, brief interventions, and direction for appropriate next steps.

Crisis phone
screening

Rapid phone‑based assessment available at 1‑833‑295‑0616, offering guidance, risk evaluation, and connection to resources.

Mobile crisis
services

Teams who respond in the community to assess mental health crises, provide stabilization, and support next care steps.

Service
Referrals

Connection to ongoing counseling, treatment programs, and local mental health resources for continued support after crisis.

Peer support
services

Support from trained individuals with lived experience who offer understanding, encouragement, and practical guidance.

The Grand Traverse Mental Health Crisis & Access Center is a welcoming 22,000‑square‑foot space designed to feel safe, soothing, and comfortable in a “living room” style environment.

These services can connect you with longer‑term care or practical assistance to help you stay safe, stable, and supported.

 

Outpatient Counseling Services

The Grand Traverse Crisis and Access Center serves patients experiencing an immediate, non-life-threatening behavioral health crisis. If you are seeking ongoing counseling from a licensed therapist, please contact one of our team members in:

Boyne City, Cadillac, Charlevoix, or Traverse City.

*Psychiatric urgent care is an intermediate level of care between community-based services and hospital care services that can often prevent urgent situations from escalating.

**The Living Room model of mental healthcare is a safe, home-like, non-clinical setting, where people can receive crisis intervention, stabilization services, and support from staff who have their own experience with mental illness or substance use disorder. 

The Center has been made possible through a:

  • $5 million American Rescue Plan Act allocation from Grand Traverse County.
  • $5 million Michigan Hospital Association grant designated for pediatric programming and services.
