The Witham Family Comprehensive Stroke Center at Munson Medical Center — Northern Michigan’s first and only Comprehensive Stroke Center — is pleased to announce we have been selected as a research site for the national SUMMIT RISE stroke study and recently enrolled three participants. This clinical trial, sponsored by Route 92 Medical, will evaluate the real‑world performance of their FDA-approved reperfusion devices, which use suction to remove stroke‑causing clots and restore blood flow to the brain.
“Participating in clinical research like SUMMIT RISE is incredibly important because it helps bring best-practice stroke care to Northern Michigan, allowing patients to receive advanced treatment close to home,” said Gary Rajah, MD; Cerebrovascular Neurosurgeon and Surgical Director, Munson Healthcare Comprehensive Stroke Program. “Neurovascular Surgery, Stroke Neurology, and our research team continue to support multicenter national patient‑outcomes research.”
MHC has completed several stroke studies and continues to participate with partners in multicenter studies, including:
- Complex aneurysm repair
- Intervention for tandem occlusion strokes
- Tenecteplase (TNK) use in large‑vessel occlusions
