Classes and Services at the Wellness Workshop
Many of our low-cost classes and services are offered using a convenient punch card. Your first class is always free so you can try it out before deciding if it is a good fit for you.
- The card is $85 for 10 classes, with the 11th at no charge.
- Ages 60+ may purchase a card for $60.
- Employees and volunteers of the hospital are charged $35 per card.

Fitness
Chair Yoga (Free)
Perfect for all levels, chair yoga is a great way to stretch from head to toe without putting pressure on the lower body.
Chair Strength (Free)
Strength, balance and flexibility class designed for older participants or anyone starting a new exercise program; exercises are done sitting in a chair, standing behind the chair or a combination of both, depending on the participant; learn proper form and reintroduce your muscles to the joy of exercise.
Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention
Michigan State Extension will be teaching an 8-week ‘Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention’ class beginning on Wednesday, January 8th from 1-3pm. This class is designed to increase strength, balance and prevent falls. Preregistration is required and space is limited, please call the MSU Extension office at (231) 582-6232 to register.
Walk for Fitness (Free)
For anyone wanting to begin a fitness program, walk with others, get support and gain knowledge of proper walking techniques, our goal will be to work up to a one mile walk and beyond.
Yoga Classes
Reduce stress, strengthen your core and improve flexibility. Everyone is welcome regardless of fitness level or yoga experience.
Other Fitness Classes
Find a class that fits your fitness level and provides you with a supportive environment to help you reach your fitness goals. Each class begins with a solid warm-up routine and finishes with a total body recovery stretch.
- Body Basics (BB): Improve overall endurance, improve balance and flexibility in this total body toning/strengthening class. Utilizes your own body weight, resistance bands, balance balls, and includes core training and some cardio activities. Great for those just beginning a new exercise program or for anyone looking to add a strengthening component to their current exercise routine.
- Strength Training (PST): An intermediate/advanced exercise class. Provides a challenging and unique blend of strength and aerobic exercises to improve your overall endurance while pushing your body to efficiently burn calories and sculpt muscles.
- Full Body Toning (FBT): Class uses a blended full body muscular endurance and strengthening approach to sculpt muscles, boost overall endurance, improve balance and agility. This class utilizes a combination of weights, bands, balls, plyometric and aerobic components. Beware that this class requires stamina and you will sweat.
Cooking
Kid’s Cooking Classes
Kids learn basic kitchen skills while creating a variety of healthy foods. Designed to help kids make healthier food choices, expose them to new tastes and textures, and expand their palate. Class begins with a visit to the Charlevoix Farmer’s Market to select ingredients and ends with a communal dinner to enjoy all the fruits and vegetables of their labor.

The Art of Healthy Eating
“New Year Reboot” is the theme of the January 10th 12p-1pm ‘Make and Take’ and the January 15th ‘Art of Healthy Eating’ evening class at the Munson Charlevoix Wellness Workshop from 6pm-8pm. Come and learn how to make this year healthier without losing the flavor. Please call the Wellness Workshop (231) 437-3482 to register.
The Art of Plant-Based Cooking*
Learn the benefits of adding flavorful and fun plant-based dishes to your menu. This hands-on healthy food preparation experience has lunch and dinner options. During the summer months, classes may walk to the Charlevoix Farmer’s Market for ingredients.
Childbirth Classes
Committed to providing a great birthing experience and a wonderful start for your new baby; also offering all-day refresher childbirth classes.

Diabetes
Diabetes Prevention Program (Free)
A one-year program designed to help prevent type 2 diabetes.
Diabetes Classes
Our Diabetes Prevention Program can help you make a change for life. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-led National Diabetes Prevention Program will help you learn how to change your lifestyle to prevent type 2 diabetes.* You will work one-on-one with lifestyle coaches and other participants to overcome obstacles. You’ll share stories and tips, support one another, and make healthy changes that will last a lifetime.
Groups meet for 16 weekly, one-hour sessions and six monthly follow-up sessions with our trained lifestyle coaches. Cost is $60 and is covered by many insurances, scholarships are also available. Ask questions about nutrition, food journaling and weight management. Our hospital dietitian will answer your questions and help you make positive healthy nutrition choices.
On Site Registered Nurse (Free)
Available to answer your health-related questions, including medication and insulin management.
Support Groups (Free)
A variety of support groups gather to give support and help to others; call for more information.

Quit Smoking
The American Lung Association's Freedom from Smoking group quit program has a proven track record. Hundreds of thousands of people have become smoke free through this group clinic which offers a structured, systematic approach to quitting during 8-week programs.
